Creating Space for Chemical Sustainability in ESG

Course Description:
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) evaluations are quickly becoming important parts of corporate financial reporting. ESG is an investing concept intended to enhance corporate responsibility and transparency in order to address social and environmental concerns. However, several recent articles have pointed out that ESG scoring often reflects nebulous future commitments and focuses on investment risks rather than companies' impacts on the planet. Furthermore, with relatively low agreement of ESG scores across major rating agencies, it's difficult to know what to do with ESG scores or how to improve a company's standing. With all the problems outlined above, how should we think about product stewardship in a world where ESG investing is becoming standard? This session's speakers believe that product stewardship is the natural home of corporate environmental sustainability efforts and that product stewards should play a role in plans to meet ESG objectives. In this 'unconference' presentation, the speakers will discuss how product stewards can lead the corporate charge toward a better ESG model and a more sustainable world.
